Tarte Make Believe In Yourself: Magic Wands Brush Set retails for $39 USD ($51 CAD) and is said to be "a limited-edition set of five, vegan, cruelty-free, fairytale-inspired makeup brushes." The brushes carry a nice weight to them and don't feel or look cheap, fortunately. They are made up of a durable plastic handle, a (what feels like) metal ferrule and extremely soft, synthetic bristles—the design is quite similar to the popular Unicorn Brushes by Unicorn Lashes.

The magenta brush is a dense, flat shape said for contouring, strobing and highlighting. The pink brush is a slightly tapered shape said for foundation and finishing powders. The purple brush is a fluffy, yet dense shape said for primers, cream and liquid foundations. The green brush is a fluffy, round shape said for blending and defining the crease. And the blue brush is a flat, domed shape said for packing colors on the lid or softening colors in the crease.

TARTE Tarteist Blush Palette

Tarte Tarteist Blush Palette(4 x 0.158 oz.) retails for $38 USD ($46 CAD) and is said to be "the ultimate blush wardrobe introducing four new, limited edition shades." Breaking it down and doing the math, this palette is an $88 USD ($107 CAD) value.

The packaging is a slim, metallic gold plastic compact with a beautiful paint brush design on the front. It also features a standard snap closure and opens to reveal a mirror. The formula is comparable to the regular Amazonian Clay Blush line in being longer-lasting and having buildable pigmentation—the only "downfall" is that the formula typically doesn't quite live up to the 12-hour claim, but that tends to be the case even in the full-size line.

Live is a light-medium pink with hints of coral, warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was quite dry and firm in the pan, but blended out smoothly across the skin without looking powdery. It had mostly opaque pigmentation and it was buildable to a degree. Live lasted +8 hours before fading. (4/5)

TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks (0.085 oz.) retails for $22 USD ($26 CAD) and is available in 12 shades. They are said to be "a full-coverage matte lipstick with lip nourishing antioxidants."

* Bikini is described as a pink coral. [P]

* Cabana Boy is described as a mauve. [P] 

* Surfer Girl is described as a cool fuchsia. [P] 

"Saturate lips with creamy, full-coverage color and hydration with this long-wearing satin-matte lipstick. This vibrant lip formula helps firm, treat, and protect your lips while providing intense hydration and hiding the appearance of fine lines. Just use the crisp, precise tip to seamlessly define and contour lips, delivering a rich, long-lasting color."

The Drench Lip Splash packaging is a slim, light-weight lipstick tube—despite the beautiful purple and gold ombré design, the tube itself actually feels very thin and not as sturdy as most other lipsticks. When twisting the product up and down, it feels quite rough and two of the lipsticks broke during initial swatching, while the third is loose in the tube. They have a light mint scent, but no noticeable taste.

Bikini is a medium-dark, pink red with warm undertones and a satin finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had great, opaque pigmentation. The creamy formula made it apply easily without dragging and was comfortable to wear. Bikini wore well for +5 hours, was lightly hydrating and left behind a stain. (4/5)

* Kat Von D Bachelorette was darker, warmer, matte. Kat Von D Bachelorette was darker, warmer, more red. Marc Jacobs So Sofia was warmer, more coral, glossy. Sephora Collection Strawberry Kissed was darker, more red, matte.

Cabana Boy is a light-medium, mauve rose with hints of pink, cool undertones and a satin finish. It applied smoothly, mostly even and had nice, opaque pigmentation. This shade had a creamy consistency that wore easily, but liked to accentuate dryness and imperfections which caused my natural lip color to show through in areas. I found the color also gravitated towards lip lines and felt hydrating during wear. Cabana Boy lasted +4.5 hours before fading. (4/5)

* ColourPop Bianca (LE) was cooler, more grey, matte. Sephora Collection Marvelous Mauve was darker, more pink, matte. Stila Patina was darker, cooler, more mauve.

Surfer Girl is a medium-dark, brightened magenta with cool undertones and a satin finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had great, opaque color payoff. It had a creamy texture that applied easily, was comfortable throughout wear and didn't feather despite having a small amount of slip. The color did gravitate towards lip lines, but never felt drying. Surfer Girl lasted +6 hours and left behind a stain. (4/5)

* MAC Have Your Cake (LE) was brighter, warmer, more fuchsia. Bite Beauty Violet was brighter, more pink. MAC Heroine was cooler, more purple. Sephora Collection African Violet was cooler, more purple, matte.

Overall, the Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks have a very nice formula—they're pigmented, comfortable to wear, easy to apply and come in a great selection of shades. Unfortunately, despite being nice on the lips, the packaging and amount of product is disappointing. These lipsticks contain less product than your standard lipsticks (the usual is any where between 0.10 oz., 0.12 oz. to 0.15 oz.) and the packaging feels quite low-priced, especially considering all three shades I tested were loose in the tube straight out of the box, two of which actually broke.

With all that said, while the formula is nice, I would recommend passing on these lipsticks unless they improve the packaging or you're the type of person who regularly applies lipsticks using a lip brush.

TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette (0.485 oz.) retails for $42 USD ($50 CAD) The palette is permanent and features three shades; two highlighters and one setting powder. It is said to be "a highlighting trio palette with three universal shades for strobing and perfecting."

* Perfecting Powder in Filtered Light (0.085 oz.)

* Luminous Perfecting Powder in Sunlight (0.20 oz.)

* Luminous Perfecting Powder in Moonlight (0.20 oz.)

"Brighten up your complexion with a radiant “twinkle” using this sleek, strobing and highlighting palette. Featuring a versatile trio of silky perfecting powders, you can filter and reflect light for a soft focus glow. The middle Filtered Light shade is your go-to setting powder in a universal matte sand that brightens and corrects any darkness under the eyes. Paired with two full-size, luminous perfecting powders, they’re perfect for illuminating the contours of the face for a natural-looking glow that flatters all skintones."

The packaging is a slim, metallic gold plastic compact with a blue water design on the front. It also features a standard snap closure and opens to reveal a mirror. Despite the "flatters all skin tones" claim, while the Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette will suit a wide variety of people, it would have been nice to see two separate palettes; one geared towards light-medium and another for tan-deep skin tones.

Sunlight is a light, champagne gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft, smooth and had an almost buttery consistency despite being lightly powdery. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that was buildable and left a luminous glowing sheen to the skin. The product was easy to blend across the skin, but I felt it sheered away easily the more you tried to diffuse the product. Sunlight lasted +7.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* Becca Champagne Pop was darker, warmer, more peach. Becca Moonstone was more opaque, shimmery.

Filtered Light is a light, yellow beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was very firm and stiff in the pan, it's hard to pick up a decent amount of product, either with your finger or a brush, as the powder itself is very thin, dry and weightless. It has difficulties adhering to skin and can look chalky at times. It had incredibly sheer pigmentation and left a very fine, sparse micro-shimmer on the skin at a closer inspection.

I think the idea behind this powder is to be a setting powder; it contains ingredients like mica and silica, which most other setting powders do. It has a similar texture to those types of powders with the exception of being chalky and firm. When taking that concept into consideration (a setting powder over a highlighting powder), this is a less disappointing product, but with that said, I didn't feel it improved the wear time or overall look of my make up at all. (1/5)

Moonlight is a light-medium, peach gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was again soft, smooth and had an almost buttery feel to it. It had nice color payoff, much stronger than the other, including the finish, and blended out on the skin effortlessly without emphasizing the look of pores. Moonlight wore well for +7.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* Becca Champagne Pop was darker, more opaque, shimmery. Becca Opal was darker, more bronze, shimmery. NYX Nectar was darker, more peach, less frosted.

Overall, this was a mildly disappointing palette for the price. While the highlighters had a texture that was easy to work with, nice performance and left the skin with a glowing sheen, the perfecting powder was difficult to use and looked chalky once applied—it really left me wishing the brand would have made this palette strictly highlighting powders or released them for sale individually. With that said, I do recommend checking this palette out simply for the highlighting aspect, so long as you can justify the price.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip  (0.29 oz) retails for $28 USD ($33 CAD) and contains four deluxe-sized and one full-sized lip product, in cream to matte finishes. It is said to be "a multi-brand lip set with five lip color must-haves for the perfect nude lip." Breaking the item prices down, this set is roughly a $86 USD ($103 CAD) value.

Milky Way is a medium, muted brown beige with warm undertones and a satin finish. The packaging is a square, plastic tube with no noticeable scent or taste. This shade applied smoothly, mostly even and semi-opaque. I found that my natural lip pigmentation did show through in some areas due to the thinner consistency. Milky Way lasted +4 hours before fading. (4/5)

* MAC Kinda Sexy was more pink. MAC Velvet Teddy was darker, more pink. Too Faced Melted Chocolate Honey was lighter, more peach.

* Marc Jacobs (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil (0.01 oz.) — reg. $24 USD / $30 CAD (0.01 oz.)

• Prim(rose) is described as a cocoa spice. [P]

Prim(rose) is a medium plum rose with warm undertones and a matte finish. The packaging was a retractable style pencil with no apparent scent or taste. The texture was soft, smooth and lightly creamy which made it easy to apply without tugging, dragging or creating jagged edges. It had nice color payoff, felt drying when worn alone but did help with the performance of other products when layered. Prim(rose) wore well for +4.5 hours before fading. (4/5)

* Bite Beauty Pepper was similar, glossy. Kat Von D Lolita was darker, muted. Marc Jacobs Infamous was brighter, more pink. Sephora Collection Marvelous Mauve was darker, muted.

* NARS Lipstick (0.12 oz.) — reg. $27 USD / $34 CAD (0.12 oz.)

• Dolce Vita is described as a sheer dusty rose. [P]

Dolce Vita is a light, rose beige with warm undertones and a glossy finish. The packaging is a square, matte black tube with a silicone texture. The product itself has no scent or taste. This shade applied smoothly, mostly even and sheer. I felt it took several good passes of product to get a hint of color on the lips and even still, my natural lip pigmentation did show—keep in mind, the transparency of this shade will cause it to look different on everyone. Dolce Vita lasted +3.5 hours and felt slightly hydrating. (4/5)

* NUDESTIX Lip + Cheek Crayon (0.088 oz.) — reg. $24 USD / $28 CAD (0.05 oz.)

• Whisper is described as a nude. [P]

Whisper is a light, muted nude beige with warm undertones and a creamy, luminous finish. The packaging is a wooden crayon style pencil that does require sharpening—the stand alone crayons come with a sharpener, however, the set doesn't which was a downfall. The product itself has no noticeable scent or taste. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had nice color payoff. Due to the lighter nature, I found the color did fall into lip lines on a closer inspection, but never looked uneven. It had a light, creamy consistency (similar to Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipsticks) that made it comfortable throughout wear. Whisper lasted +5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* ColourPop Choker (LE) was similar, less pink. Kat Von D Noble was lighter, more pink. Stila Caramello was muted, more grey toned.

* Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint (0.10 oz.) — reg. $20 USD / $24 CAD (0.20 oz.)

• Namaste is described as a nude. [P]

Namaste is a light, peach beige with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The packaging was a plastic tube with a long, slightly angled velvet applicator. The product itself has a strong minty scent, but no noticeable taste. The texture was much thicker and mousse like compared to other formulas. It was much drier and powdery on the lips, as well as being clumpy and slippery to apply, making it difficult to create clean edges. It had bold pigmentation but once dry, the color cracked and accentuated fine lines, dry areas and imperfections. Namaste lasted +3.5 hours and felt drying. (3/5)

* Clinique Beige Pop was darker, more pink, glossy. Kat Von D Noble was more pink.

Overall, while the colors may not compliment every skin tone, the set did feature a nice variety of products and finishes. The deluxe sizes make it very easy to test out new formulas without committing to a full sized tube—personally, I found the traditional lipsticks to be rather sheer and the matte "liquid" lipstick to be overly drying, but I was delighted to discover the Nudestix Crayon as it's not typically something I would have tried outside of the set, but it quickly became a favorite. So, if you've been wanting to try out any of these shades or formulas, than it's definitely worth checking this set out first!
