MAC Objects of Affection Collection | Pigments

MAC released their newest collection Objects of Affection on October 27, 2014 online and October 30, 2014 in-stores. The collection featured 3 lipglass sets and 3 mini pigment sets, plus 1 online exclusive pigment set that was only available in the US [review coming soon]. This collection follows the other holiday collections with glittery, special edition packaging.

"Colour takes over this holiday, in a collection of mini kits filled with gilded hues of Lipglass, Pigment and Glitter dressed up in glitterized boxes adorned with a cameo medallion."
While these sets are limited-edition, some of the shades are part of the permanent range and can be purchased anytime. You are getting a good value as a full-sized Pigment (0.15 oz.) and Glitter (0.15 oz.) regularly retail for $21 USD ($25 CAD) each. MAC has also introduced the Size to Go Pigments (0.09 oz.) which individually retail for $10 USD ($12 CAD). With that said, each set contains roughly $60 - $70 worth of product.

I picked up all 3 pigment sets... (I will be reviewing the online exclusive set later on!)

White is a light, pale silver-white with cool undertones and a frosted sheen finish. The texture was silky, soft, smooth, easy to work with and blend. When applied dry it was semi-sheer; applied wet, it was mostly opaque, more vibrant and had a stronger sheen. This shade lasted +9.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
Blue Noir is a medium, blue teal with cool undertones and a frosted  finish. The texture was soft, smooth, easy to work with and blend. When applied dry it was semi-sheer; applied wet, it was mostly opaque, a tad more vibrant and smoother. This shade lasted +8 hours before fading. (4/5)

Dark Soul is a medium-dark, black with silver sparkle, cool undertones and semi-matte finish. The texture was soft, finely-milled, smooth and had noticeable sparkle. When applied dry it was sheer, but buildable; applied wet, it was mostly opaque, but more difficult to blend out evenly. This shade faded in my crease +7 hours into wear. (4/5)
Grey [Glitter] is a medium-dark, purple grey with cool undertones and a chunky texture. *This glitter is NOT recommended for use in the eye or lip area.

Tan is a medium-dark, copper brown with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was soft, smooth and easy to work with and blend. When applied dry it was mostly opaque; applied wet, it was more opaque. This shade lasted +8 hours before fading. (4/5)
Rose is a medium-dark, pink rose with gold shimmer, warm undertones and a frosted, metallic sheen. The texture was chunkier and more difficult to apply smoothly and evenly. When applied dry it was semi-sheer and prone to fall-out; applied wet, it was mostly opaque, but still difficult to blend out. This shade really needs to be worked into the skin in order to break the pigment down. It lasted +8.5 hours before fading. (4/5)
Heritage Rouge is a medium-dark, burgundy plum with warm undertones and a pearl finish. The texture was soft, smooth and easy to work with and blend. When applied dry it was mostly opaque; applied wet, it was more opaque, pigmented, smooth and vibrant. This shade lasted +9.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
Reigning Riches [Glitter] is a medium-dark, copper with warm undertones and a small, fine texture*This glitter is NOT recommended for use in the eye or lip area.

English Guilt is a medium, yellow bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was soft, smooth, finely-milled and easy to work with and blend. When applied dry it was mostly opaque; applied wet, it was opaque and had a stronger metallic finish. This shade lasted +8.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
Pretty It Up is a medium-dark, golden bronze with slight olive shift, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was chunkier, but broke down easily, smoothly and blended nicely. When applied dry it was mostly opaque; applied wet, it was opaque, pigmented and had an intense metallic finish. This shade lasted +9 hours before fading. (5/5)
Deep Brown is a medium-dark, muted brown with slight hints of grey, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was incredibly soft, smooth, silky and finely-milled. When applied dry it was mostly opaque, but a little tricky to blend out evenly. Normally, matte finishes can't be used wet but this shade held up fairly well and became more opaque. This shade lated +8 hours before fading. (4/5)
Gold [Glitter] is a light-medium, gold with warm undertones and a small, fine texture*This glitter is NOT recommended for use in the eye area.

Overall, these sets are a wonderful value despite the pigment jars being on the smaller side and sometimes being difficult to fit a brush into. They're very easy to use and pigments are incredibly versatile  to create a soft, subtle look, create a bold, dramatic look, cheek colors or even mixing these pigments with other lip products  the list of options goes on! I highly recommend checking these sets out whether you're gifting them or picking them up for yourself!
