Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duos
(0.35 oz) individually retail for $30 USD ($38 CAD) and is available in two shades. They are said to be "a highlighting powder duo powered by "Photolite" technology."
* Rosy Glow is described as a sheer gold and gilded rose. [P]
* Warm Glow is described as a champagne and peach. [P]
"Inspired by Too Faced’s original Candlelight powder, this formula offers a more ethereal glow by using “Photolite” technology which diffuses harsh light, giving your skin a soft, youthful luminosity. The powder formula is easy to apply to cheeks, browbones, and décolleté for a quick all-over glow. The sheer golden powder warms skintone, while the gilded-rose formula brightens and illuminates."
**Ingredients contain Carmine
The packaging is a round plastic compact with a standard snap closure and features a mirror. It also has a chandelier design and the brand's logo embossed onto the product itself. With the new additional shade, the brand has also updated the packaging and formula. With that said, I did previously own Rosy Glow so it may vary slightly in texture and packaging from the one available for purchase now. (See below for a formula comparison.)
Now if you're anything like me, you're probably asking yourself, "What on earth is Photolite technology supposed to do?" The brand claims the special formula "diffuses harsh light, giving your skin a soft, youthful luminosity." The Warm Glow powder is designed to bring warmth to the skin, while Rosy Glow brightens and illuminates.
Rosy Glow (Left) is a light white with cool undertones, gold shimmer and a frosted finish. The texture was ultra silky, smooth, buttery and blended out easily across the skin. The pigmentation was easy to sheer out by using a fluffy brush and left a luminous sheen to the skin. This shade could easily emphasize the look of pores if too much product is applied. Rosy Glow (Left) lasted +9 hours before fading. (5/5)
Rosy Glow (Right) is a light pink with cool undertones, gold shimmer and a frosted finish. The texture was soft, smooth and easy to blend and sheer out on the skin. It left a shimmery, almost metallic finish to the skin which could emphasize imperfections and pores if you're not careful. Rosy Glow (Right) wore well for +8 hours before fading. (5/5)
* Anastasia Beverly Hills Starlight was lighter, more pink. Becca Moonstone was lighter, less gold. Make Up For Ever Pink Beige (Highlight) was lighter, more pink.
Warm Glow (Left) is a light champagne gold with warm undertones and frosted finish. The texture was soft, smooth and blended out very easily on the skin. The pigmentation was more on the sheer side, but it could be built to intensify the color and finish. It left a very luminous glow on the skin without emphasizing pores. Warm Glow (Left) wore well for +8.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
Warm Glow (Right) is a light-medium, peach gold with warm undertones, gold shimmer and a frosted finish. The texture was smooth, applied and blended out evenly on the skin, but felt drier than the lighter side—though, not enough to be an issue. It had nice pigmentation and yielded a much stronger sheen on the cheeks, which did lightly accentuate pores if over applied. Warm Glow (Right) lasted +8.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
* Anastasia Beverly Hills So Hollywood was darker, more yellow. Becca Opal was darker, more bronze.
New Formula vs. Original Formula
Like stated previously, they have reformulated the highlighter and there are some key differences about the product itself, not just the packaging. The texture is thinner and more sheer than the original—it's acts and looks more like a traditional highlighter on the skin. The original formula was thicker, had a more buttery texture and left a very frosty sheen to the skin. Application is effortless with the new formula since you don't have to use a lighter hand or a fluffy brush out of fear of going overboard and emphasizing pores or imperfections. While I prefer the older packaging, the new formula is an improvement!
Overall, these were nice highlighters! While there wasn't a big color difference between each side, I really like the option of wearing each side alone or mixed together to create a more dimensional sheen on the cheeks. It's very easy to create a bold glow with these, or a subtle highlight with a lighter hand and a fluffier brush. I'm personally a fan of all types of highlighting products, so of course, I do recommend checking these out!
