MAC Magic of The Night Collection

MAC released their newest collection Magic of The Night on October 18, 2015 online and October 22, 2015 in-stores. For being the main holiday, color collection of the year, it featured a small variety of products ranging from eye shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks, lip pencils and skin finishes. All of the products are housed in special edition blue, purple or turquoise metallic packaging, so there is a price increase.

Here's what I picked up from the collection...

* Lipstick $18 USD / $21.50 CAD (0.10 oz.) [Limited Edition]

All Fired Up is described as a bright fuchsia matte. [Retro Matte] [P]

Dark Side is described as a deep burgundy. [Amplified] [P]

Evening Rendezvous is described as a deep reddish purple. [Matte] [LE]

Please Me is described as a muted-rosey-tinted pink. [Matte] [P]

All Fired Up is a medium-dark, brightened red fuchsia with warm undertones and an ultra matte finish. This shade had rich, opaque pigmentation that applied evenly, but due to the drier matte finish, it did tug and drag across lips during application. All Fired Up wore well for +6.5 hours and left behind a stain. (4/5)

* Kat Von D Bachelorette was darker, more red. Kat Von D Bachelorette was darker, cooler. Sephora Collection Strawberry Kissed was warmer, more orange.

Dark Side is a medium-dark, burgundy red with cool undertones and a luminous, creamy finish. It had good pigmentation, but was only buildable to a mostly opaque coverage. The texture was on the thinner side which made it glide on easily and was comfortable on the lips throughout wear. Dark Side lasted +5 hours and left behind a stain. (4/5)

* Bite Beauty Aubergine was lighter, cooler, more purple. Kat Von D Wolvesmouth was lighter, warmer, metallic.

Evening Rendezvous is a medium-dark, muted purple magenta with cool undertones and a matte finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had rich, opaque pigmentation. It was comfortable to wear and didn't feather or bleed over time. Evening Rendezvous wore well for +6 hours and left behind a stain. (5/5)

* Kat Von D Susperia was lighter, brighter, cooler. MAC Heroine was lighter, brighter, more magenta. MAC Men Love Mystery was lighter, cooler.

Please Me is a light-medium pink with hints of yellow, warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had fully opaque color payoff. This was a more comfortable matte shade to wear, as it never felt drying. Please Me lasted +5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* Bite Beauty Cafe (LE) was more peach. MAC Pink Plaid was lighter, cooler. MAC Steady Going was cooler. Too Faced Melted Peony was similar, slightly cooler.

* In Extra Dimension Skinfinish $33 USD / $38.50 CAD (0.31 oz.) [Limited Edition]

Oh, Darling is described as a metallic gold. [LE]

Shaft of Gold is described as a deep bronze. [LE]

Oh, Darling is a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was soft, smooth and blended out nicely across the skin. It had good pigmentation that could be easily sheered or built depending on your desired finish—this particular shade was more forgiving as it didn't accentuate pores or imperfections on the skin. Oh, Darling wore well for +8.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* Becca Champagne Gold (LE) was lighter, less metallic.

Shaft of Gold is a medium-dark, bronze gold with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was soft, finely-milled and applied smoothly across the skin. It had great pigmentation that was controllable, but it was very easy to go overboard—including the finish, applying too much product can emphasize pores and imperfections on the skin. Shaft of Gold lasted +8.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

* Colourdrenched Pigments $22 USD / $26.50 CAD (0.065 oz.) [Limited Edition]

Moon is Blue is described as a royal blue. [Frost] [LE]

Tonight's the Night is described as a deep blackened teal. [Frost] [LE]

Moon is Blue is a medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was rather dense in the pan, but the product itself was easy to pick up, highly pigmented and applied easily to the skin. I didn't experience much fallout. The color and finish became more intense when used wet. Moon is Blue lasted +8 hours before lightly fading. (5/5)

Tonight's the Night is a medium-dark teal with hints of green, cool undertones and a frosted finish. This shade was once again dense in the pan, but had excellent pigmentation and applied easily without having troubles adhering to skin. It performed just as good dry as it did wet. Tonight's the Night wore well for +8 hours before lightly fading. (5/5)

Overall, despite being a smaller collection, it had a great selection of products and colors that suits the holiday season nicely. The packaging was a really great touch, even if some items were from the permanent line—but if you're looking to save some money, they are worth picking them up in the regular line.
