MAC x Rocky Horror Picture Show Collection

MAC released their newest collection MAC x Rocky Horror Picture Show on September 30, 2014 online and October 2, 2014 in-stores. The collection featured 21 pieces, ranging from face products, eye products, lip products and nail lacquersThe products are housed in special edition packaging so there is a slight price increase for some products.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show kicks off the celebration of its 40th anniversary in wild style with an untamed M∙A∙C collaboration, featuring an outrageous collection of hues and products specially designed to recreate the looks of your favourite characters from the 1975 cult classic film. Transform yourself into a sex-swapping mad scientist, heroic newlywed, alien from Transylvania or even the time-warped Riff Raff, with an orgy of colour worthy of any midnight mayhem at The Frankenstein Place."
Here's what I picked up from the collection...
*Note, I owned some of the permanent products prior to this collection, hence the regular packaging.

Lipstick $17.50 USD / $21 CAD (0.10 oz.) [LE]
  •  Frank-N-Furter is described as a deep raspberry wine. [Matte]
  •  Oblivion is described as a vivid blushred. [Amplified]
  •  Sin is described as a deep dark blue red. [Matte] [Permanent]
Frank-N-Furter is a medium-dark red with cool undertones and a matte finish. The formula was creamy, opaque, pigmented, smooth and applied evenly. This shade wore well and wasn't drying on the lips. It lasted +6 hours before fading and left behind a faint stain. (5/5)
Oblivion is a medium, bright red with neutral undertones and a creamy finish. The formula was very creamy, mostly opaque, pigmented, smooth and applied easily. While this lipstick did skip in some areas, it was only noticeable up close. This shade was lightly hydrating, very comfortable when worn and lasted +6 hours before fading. (5/5)
Sin is a dark, deepened burgundy with cool undertones and a matte finish. The formula has a mostly opaque, yet buildable coverage. The texture is on the drier, stiffer side which can make application a little more difficult. When applied straight from the tube, the lipstick lightly tugs and pulls at your lips which can create jagged edges. This particular shade would benefit by pairing a lip liner underneath for a more even, fully opaque color payoff. Sin lasted +7 hours before fading.(4/5)

Powder Blush $24 USD / $28.50 CAD (0.21 oz.) [LE]
  •  Crazed Imagination is described as a muted plum with a hint of pink pearl. [Frost]
Crazed Imagination is a medium-dark, plum brown with neutral undertones and a subtle frosted finish. The formula had decent pigmentation that was buildable. The texture is on the drier, stiffer side making it difficult to apply this blush evenly and smoothly. It lasted +7 hours before fading around the edges. (4/5)

Pigment $23 USD / $27.50 CAD (0.15 oz.) [LE]
  •  It's Not Easy Having a Good Time is described as a sparkling burgundy.
It's Not Easy Having a Good Time is a medium-dark, burgundy copper shift with warm undertones and a frost finish. Although the texture is chunkier than most pigments, it breaks down easily and applies smoothly. When used dry, this shade was mostly opaque and more powdery. When used wet, this shade was fully opaque, vibrant and had a stronger frosted finish. Both forms of application lasted +10 hours before fading around the edges. (5/5)

Glitter $23 USD / $27.50 CAD (0.15 oz.) [PRO]
  •  3D Black is described as a black with holographic effect.
3D Black is a black glitter with holographic glitter mixed in. The holographic effect is incredible in real life! The quality of cosmetic glitters doesn't tend to vary, so there's not much more to say about them otherwise.

Chromagraphic Pencil $16 USD / $19 CAD (0.04 oz.) [PRO]
  •  Basic Red is described as a primary red.
  •  Black Black is described as a black.
Basic Red is a medium red with hints of orange and a satin finish. The formula is richly pigmented, fully opaque in a single swipe and glided-on smoothly and evenly. It had a slightly creamy consistency that prevented the liner from tugging or pulling at the skin when applying. Basic Red wore well for +7 hours alone on the lips and left behind a faint stain. (This pencil cannot be used in the immediate eye area.) (5/5)
Black Black is an intense blackest, black with a satin finish. This pencil was richly pigmented, fully opaque in a single swipe and glided-on smoothly and evenly. It had a slightly creamy consistency that prevented the liner from tugging or pulling at the skin when applying. Black Black lasted +12 hours on the lash line and +5 hours on the waterline before fading. (This pencil cannot be used in the lip area.) (5/5)

Sculpt and Shape Powder $27.50 USD / $33 CAD (0.37 oz.) [LE]
  •  Bone Beige / Emphasize is described as a palest cream / tan.
Bone Beige is a light-medium, neutral brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture is soft, smooth, pigmented and mostly buildable. This shade is definitely best suited for fair-medium skin tones since it applies so lightly; in both shade and amount of product. Bone Beige lasted +8.5 hours before noticeably fading. (5/5)
Emphasize is a light, pale cream with a very fine champagne shimmer and subtle satin finish. The texture is soft, smooth, finely-milled and leaves the skin looking brightened and faintly luminous  without enhancing pores or imperfections. Again, this duo would work best with fair-medium skin tones since it is such a light shade. Emphasize lasted +7.5 hours before noticeably fading. (5/5)

Set Powder $35 USD / $40 CAD (1.1 oz.)
  •  Invisible is described as a loose powder that effectively stabilizes and fixes makeup.
Invisible is a weightless, finely-milled, mattifying translucent powder meant for setting makeup, absorbing oils and smoothing the appearance of fine lines or imperfections on the skin.

Overall, this was a well-rounded collection and had a lot of people crazy excited  even those, like myself, who aren't an overly huge fan of the classic cult film! Although I had hoped for darker lip products and more out-of-the-box colors, along with the online release being far from painless, the MAC x Rocky Horror Picture Show is a great collection and it's definitely worth checking out some of the staple products featured!
