MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation icon(0.44 oz.) retails for $43 USD ($50 CAD) and is available in 15 shades. It is said to be "a long-lasting, multitasking cover stick with invisible coverage for foundation touch-ups and contouring."

My Shade: 115 = R230 is described as ivory.
"Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation creates a flawless complexion on camera, and to the naked eye. Developed specifically for the film and TV industry's most advanced technology, it is completely invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens. The revolutionary foundation contains amino acid coated pigments that provide medium-to-full coverage with a lightweight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin. It leaves a natural-looking, radiant finish, and it’s formulated with hyaluronic spheres for time-released hydration that is perfect for normal to dry skin. Ideal for foundation touch-ups and contouring, it can be applied at home or on-the-go for a flawless complexion."
Before I get into the review, we should note that my skin type is dry. Extremely to mildly dry, depending on the day/season and I only sometimes get oily in my forehead and nose area.

Range: 15 shades
Undertones: warm, cool
Coverage: light, medium, full — buildable
Finish: natural
Wear: 8 hours before requiring a touch-up
Ideal Skintype: dry, normal, combination
+ weightless, photographs nicely, no flashback

The color range offers a variety of 15 options, covering fair to deep tones. Like with the new Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, the shades are labelled with a number and followed by a letter to determine the undertone (ie. "Y" for yellow/warm and "R" for red/cool) but while the numbering system is similar, the shades in this formula don't perfectly match or follow their counterparts in the liquid version—it will be best to test the shades in person, as your "perfect match" in one, may not be in the other.

The packaging is a round, retractable container with a transparent lid. It twists up and down smoothly and is wider than your typical stick foundation, which I like and actually prefer. While the Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation isn't fragrance-free, no scent can really be detected. The formula is a very smooth, cream texture that feels weightless on the skin, unlike other cream stick foundations that can be very greasy and heavy.

The finish, depending on your desired coverage, typically sets between a natural satin and slightly dewy finish. The foundation is said to be formulated with "hyaluronic (a natural component of skin; improves skin's moisture content and strengthens skin's outer layers) spheres for time-released hydration that is perfect for normal to dry skin." which I found to be true. The coverage, finish and consistency is ideal for dry to normal skin types, but because of the ingredients (ie. waxes) that keep this product in a solid form, acne-prone and oily skin types will likely not be a fan of how this foundation wears.

The coverage builds very quickly and easily; it can be sheered out for a light coverage, or layered effortlessly for a medium to full coverage. One swipe of product does an excellent job of covering redness, imperfections and improving the overall healthy, natural appearance of skin. The overall stick design of the Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation makes spot correcting or building areas that need a little extra coverage very easy without applying too much product.

My preferred method of application is lightly swiping the foundation directly on my face and blending it out with a damp sponge (like a BeautyBlender or the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge) and building the coverage as desired—using a damp brush also worked, but required more layering. I wouldn't recommend using fingers as you would with regular liquid foundations; fingers seemed to blend the product unevenly and enhance unwanted textures, like dryness and pores.

During wear, the foundation was extremely comfortable, felt weightless and was never tacky before setting. On my dry skin, I found the formula glided and blended over dry spots easily—it never accentuated dryness, clung to patches or made my skin appear scale-like. Powders and concealers also layer well without moving or disturbing the product. I usually set my foundations to ensure they won't transfer or fade easily, but for simple minimal makeup days, I felt I could get away without having to set the foundation at all.

When I tested the Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation with and without a primer or base, the wear time and overall look of the foundation performed no different. After an entire day, the foundation wore very well, it was really only around the +8 hour mark that I noticed the product start to break down and show signs of wear on my forehead, nose and chin area—there was very minimal settling towards my expression lines, however, which happens with most products, so it was a delight to have hardly any creasing in that area for a change!

Overall, this is a phenomenal foundation for dry to normal skin types! The Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick really does a great job—it feels weightless and comfortable on the skin, it's effortless to apply, has natural looking yet buildable coverage and comes in a great selection of shades. After trying many products over the years, this has been the most forgiving foundation for extremely dry skin that I've tried. It's very quickly become a go-to, especially on days where I know regular liquid foundations will just end up accentuating dryness and looking scale-like on my skin. Whether dryness is a huge concern or you're just in the market for a new foundation, I highly recommend checking this formula out!
