MAC Liptensity Lipsticks

MAC released the collection of new Liptensity Lipsticks ($21 USD, $25 CAD for 0.12 oz.) on September 20, 2016 online and September 21, 2016 in-stores. The collection featured 24 lipsticks, all of which came housed in sleek, color-coded packaging. The new formula is also permanent and features the brands signature vanilla scent.

"A brilliant new Lipstick formula that pushes the boundaries of colour. Each Lipstick holds intense amounts of pigment, resulting in extreme colour intensity, clarity and vibrancy. This luxurious gelled base melts on contact, providing fully saturated colour with a satin finish in one stroke."
Here's what I picked up from the collection...

* Liptensity Lipsticks $21 USD / $25 CAD (0.12 oz.)
  • Burnt Violet is described as a dark plum. [P]
  • Claretcast is described as a mid-tone magenta. [P]
  • Driftwood is described as a soft lilac beige. [P]
  • Galaxy Grey is described as a light bluish grey. [P]
  • Marsala is described as a deep magenta pink. [P]
  • Medium Rare is described as a creamy soft pink. [P]
  • Smoked Almond is described as a bright rose brown. [P]

Burnt Violet (P) is a dark, blackened plum with cool undertones and a creamy, luminous finish. While this shade had a creamy texture, it applied pretty uneven on the lips and only had semi-opaque color payoff—as usual with darker shades, it will work best paired over a lip liner for a more even looking coverage. Burnt Violet wore well for +6.5 hours and left behind a stain. (4/5)
* MAC Ariana Grande (LE) was darker, cool, more burgundy. Urban Decay Mirana (LE) was darker, cooler, more maroon. Kat Von D Homegirl was darker, more berry. OFRA Mina was cooler, more matte.

Claretcast (P) is a medium, brightened berry fuchsia with cool undertones and a creamy, satin finish. It applied smoothly, evenly and had excellent pigmentation. The color did drag on lips, but once the product "warms up" it begins to glide-on much easier without creating jagged edges. Claretcast lasted +6.5 hours and left behind a stain. (5/5)
* Bite Beauty Juniper (LE) was slightly darker, cooler. ColourPop Cougar (LE) was brighter, cooler, more fuchsia. MAC Marsala (P) was warmer, more red. ColourPop Mars brighter, cooler, more matte. MAC All Fired Up was lighter, cooler, more red.

Driftwood (P) is a medium, muted mauve with neutral undertones and a creamy, luminous finish. This shade had a thinner consistency that was noticeably creamier than the others and unfortunately did cause the color to fall into lip lines easier. I found pairing it over a lip liner did extend the wear time and give a more opaque appearance. Driftwood lasted +4.5 hours before fading. (4/5)
Bite Beauty Honeycomb was darker, warmer, more peach. Bite Beauty Sugarcane was cooler, much more pink. ColourPop Littlestitious was lighter, cooler, more pink. Kat Von D Noble warmer, more peach, matte.

Galaxy Grey (P) is a medium, muted grey lavender with neutral-to-cool undertones and a creamy, luminous finish. The color applied smoothly, evenly but did like to accentuate and cling to imperfections and drier areas. While it had great pigmentation, this was a troubling shade on some days—depending on the condition of my lips, it would either fall into my lip lines almost immediately after applying, or it wouldn't, at all, throughout wear. Either way, I would recommend pairing this shade with a lip liner just to ensure an even coverage and prevent the color from gathering into natural lines. Galaxy Grey lasted +6.5 hours before fading. (4/5)
* MAC Plum Princess (LE) warmer, slightly more pink. Kat Von D Ayesha was cooler, more purple, matte. Kat Von D Coven was cooler, much more blue toned, matte. NYX Playdate was warmer, more pink.

Marsala (P) is a medium-dark, berry red with cool undertones and a creamy, satin finish. This shade performed much like Claretcast, it went on very smoothly and evenly with bold pigmentation that gave lips an almost "juicy" appearance. It was one of the best performing lipsticks from the range. Marsala wore well for +7 hours and left behind a stain. (5/5)
* Bite Beauty Mulberry (LE) was cooler, more berry. ColourPop Lyin' King was slightly darker, cooler. MAC D For Danger was cooler. OFRA Santa Ana was cooler, muted.

Medium Rare (P) is a light-medium pink with hints of yellow, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had a noticeably thicker texture than the other shades, luckily this never caused any problems when applying, but I felt even after the product had "warmed up" on the lips, it still didn't feel as creamy. This shade also had opaque pigmentation and provided the least shine. Medium Rare lasted +5 hours before fading. (5/5)
* Bite Beauty Cafe (LE) was warmer, slightly more peach. Bite Beauty Cafe (LE) was cooler. Bite Beauty Sugarcane was cooler.

Smoked Almond (P) is a medium-dark brown with hints of pink, warm undertones and a creamy, luminous finish. This was another excellent performing shade. It applied easily and evenly, gave lips a smooth appearance, had great color payoff and felt lightly hydrating over time. Smoked Almond wore well for +6.5 hours before fading. (5/5)
* ColourPop Ruffle (LE) was cooler, more brown. MAC Pamela (LE) was cooler, muted, glossy. MAC Velvet Teddy was lighter, more nude. MAC Whirl was darker, muted, more grey toned.

Overall, the Liptensity Lipsticks are a great addition to the brands range and it's a huge plus that the shades were instantly introduced as part of the permanent line! The formula has their signature vanilla scent, which is also a huge plus and while the texture is thicker than their regular lipsticks, they wear comfortably and give lips a smoother appearance overall. Whether you're in the market for a new lipstick or you're just a lipstick fiend, I recommend checking the Liptensity line out!
