MAC Vamplify Collection (2016)

MAC released one of their newest collections Vamplify on July 7, 2016 online and July 14, 2016 in-stores. The collection featured 16 lipglosses—7 of which are new shades, while the rest are repromotes from the first Vamplify Collection.

"M·A·C Vamplify is back! Seven new colours join the potent lineup: deep turquoise blue, smoky stone, perfect periwinkle, deep plum, royal blue-purple, dusky rose and intense true red, each loading lips with that same unbeatable shine. Now there’s more vamp than ever."
The packaging is a long, slim tube with a thin, angled doe-foot applicator. The formula is soft, smooth, highly pigmented, lightly hydrating and wears roughly 3 - 5 hours. They all have a creamy consistency that is comfortable throughout wear and never feels sticky or heavy—it's only once the product starts to wear away that there is any noticeable, slight tackiness. They have a strong vanilla scent that can be noticed, but not tasted on initial application.

Here's what I picked up from the collection...

Vamplify Lipgloss $20 USD / $24 CAD (0.16 oz.) [Limited Edition]
  • Absolute Score is described as a smokey stone. [LE]
  • Anything But Demure is described as a mauvey nude. [LE]
  • Fab Tested is described as a dirty rose. [LE]
  • How Chic is This? is described as a violet purple. [LE]
  • She-Rebel is described as a dark blue purple. [LE]
  • Smart Aleck is described as an intense true red. [LE]
  • Spanking Haute is described as a pinky nude. [LE]
  • Sway to the Sound is described as a soft purple. [LE]
  • Tuned In is described as a mid-tone rosey nude. [LE]
  •  What's Going On? is described as a hot intense fuchsia. [LE]

Absolute Score is a medium-dark, muted brown with neutral undertones and a glossy, cream finish. As expected from the formula, this shade applied smoothly, evenly and had great, opaque color payoff. I didn't experience any bleeding or feathering, it had nice performance throughout wear. Absolute Score lasted +5 hours and felt lightly hydrating. (5/5)
* ColourPop Kapow was more gray toned, matte. ColourPop Mess Around was warmer, more opaque. MAC Stone was lighter, warmer, more opaque.

Anything But Demure is a light-medium, muted mauve brown with warm undertones, gold micro-sparkle and a glossy, cream finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had rich, opaque pigmentation. It wore comfortably both alone and layered, plus the micro-sparkle gave the lips a subtle golden sheen. Anything But Demure wore well for +5 hours before fading. (5/5)
* ColourPop Times Square (LE) was darker, warmer, more brown, matte. ColourPop Parker (LE) was warmer, more pink, slightly less glossy. MAC Tuned In (LE) was darker, warmer, more yellow toned. Nudestix Mystic was cooler, more pink.

Fab Tested is a medium-dark, muted plum brown with warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. Once again, this was another shade to have great performance—it applied and wore easily while being pigmented, lightly hydrating and comfortable on the lips. Fab Tested wore well for +5 hours before fading.  (5/5)
* MAC Tuned In (LE) was warmer, more rose with a gold shimmer. Laura Mercier Milky Way was much lighter, more beige. MAC Whirl was darker, cooler, more red toned.

How Chic is This? is a medium-dark, purple magenta with warm undertones, violet micro-sparkle and a glossy, cream finish. The color ended up being quite a bit more sheer compared to the other shades, more of a semi-opaque coverage. It still applied smoothly, wore comfortably and only slightly bled towards the end of wear. How Chic is This? lasted +4.5 hours before fading. (4/5)
MAC Ariana Grande 2 (LE) was brighter, warmer, slightly more fuchsia. Caked Jelly was brighter, cooler, matte. Kat Von D Susperia was cooler, matte. MAC Heroine was brighter, cooler, more purple, matte.

She-Rebel is a medium-dark purple with cool undertones, blue micro-sparkle and a glossy, cream finish. This was another shade to have semi-opaque coverage, which meant your natural lips pigmentation does show through. While it didn't have the most even appearance when worn alone, it wears and looks best paired over other products. She-Rebel lasted +4 hours and felt lightly hydrating. (3/5)
* MAC Witching Hour (LE) was darker, more purple, opaque. Sephora Collection She's Got The Power (LE) was slightly more purple, matte. OFRA Purple Rain was warmer, more metallic. Sephora Collection Polished Purple was darker, more purple, metallic.

Smart Aleck is a medium-dark, brightened red with hints of pink, cool undertones and a glossy, cream finishThis particular shade had a more gel-like, juicy appearance on the lips—it reminds me of rubbing a red popsicle on your lips as a kid, but in a good way! It applied smoothly, evenly and had mostly opaque color payoff. Smart Aleck lasted +5 hours and felt lightly hydrating. (5/5)
ColourPop Naked Ladies (LE) was warmer, more coral, less glossy. MAC Pretty Irresistible (LE) was cooler, less glossy. Kat Von D Bachelorette was cooler, more pink, matte. MAC All Fired Up was cooler, less glossy.

Spanking Haute is a light-medium peach with warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. While this shade had great, opaque pigmentation, I found the color liked to settle into lip lines almost immediately due to the "milky" consistency—this was never an issue when paired over other products, like lipsticks. Spanking Haute lasted +4 hours and felt lightly hydrating. (4/5)
Bite Beauty Honeycomb was warmer. ColourPop Magic Wand was darker, slightly more brown, less glossy. Too Faced Melted Chocolate Milkshake was darker, more peach.

Sway to the Sound is a medium-dark, muted lavender with cool undertones and a glossy, cream finish. This was another gloss that had issues settling into lip lines due to the more pastel nature. Regardless, it still had mostly opaque pigmentation, applied smoothly and felt hydrating during wear. Sway to the Sound lasted +5 hours before fading. (4/5)
* Bite Beauty Lavender Jam (LE) was slightly warmer, darker. Kat Von D Coven was lighter, cooler, matte.

Tuned In is a medium-dark, muted rose plum with warm undertones, gold micro-sparkle and a glossy, cream finish. This shade applied smoothly, evenly and had rich, opaque pigmentation while being hydrating. The fine micro-sparkle was also noticeable, as it gave lips a subtle golden sheen. Tuned In lasted +5 hours before fading. (5/5)
* ColourPop Times Square (LE) was lighter, less rose toned, matte. ColourPop Parker (LE) was lighter, warmer, less glossy. MAC Pamela (LE) was cooler. MAC Velvet Teddy was lighter, more beige, less glossy.

What's Going On? is a medium-dark, vivid fuchsia pink with cool undertones, strong blue micro-sparkle and a glossy, cream finish. I found this shade had mostly opaque pigmentation which made it very easy to wear alone or pair over other products to really enhance the blue sheen. I also experienced very light bleeding when worn on it's own. What's Going On? lasted +5.5 hours and felt lightly hydrating. (5/5)
* ColourPop The Rabbit was darker, warmer, less iridescent. Kat Von D Sexer was similar, more blue toned. Urban Decay Firebird was darker, warmer, more red toned.

Overall, this is without doubt my favorite gloss formula. They're highly pigmented, hydrating and all around comfortable to wear. The best part is they leave your lips with the shine of a traditional gloss, without being sticky or tacky. As I've said before, I'm not typically a fan of glosses but these are truly an exception—whether or not you're a fan of lip gloss, I highly recommend trying these out because who knows, they may easily become your favorite, too!
