MAC Wash & Dry Collection

MAC released their newest collection Wash & Dry on May 14, 2015 online and May 21, 2015 in-stores. The big summer release featured everything from eye, face and lip products to makeup bags and brushes—which, of course, was all housed in special edition packaging.

"The M•A•C Wash & Dry Laundromat is open for business, so make a date with good, clean fun. The suds are rising with this breezy bronzing collection inspired by bright, fresh hues perfect for a full spin or just a quick tumble. All in super-sleek packaging to set your cycle to chic!"
Here's what I picked up from the collection...

Lipstick $17.50 USD / $21 CAD (0.10 oz.) [LE]
  •  Creme d'Nude is described as a light beige pink nude. [Cremesheen]

  •  Steam Heat is described as a vivid yellow red. [Satin]
Creme d'Nude is a light, pale nude beige with hints of pink, warm undertones and a lightly luminous finish. This shade was mostly opaque and went on somewhat uneven once applied. It had a thinner consistency that seemed to grab onto imperfections and settle into lip lines over time. Creme d'Nude wore well for +3 hours before fading. (3/5) *This shade is part of the permanent range in regular packaging.
Steam Heat is a medium-dark red with hints of yellow, warm undertones and a satin finish. This shade had rich, opaque pigmentation and had a comfortable consistency that applied evenly without dragging or tugging at the lips. Steam Heat wore well for +5.5 hours and left behind a faint stain. (5/5)

Lipglass $17.50 USD / $20 CAD (0.10 oz.) [LE]
  •  Domestic Diva is described as frosty, watery pink.

  •  Hot/Cold is described as a true red.
Domestic Diva is a medium-dark pink with warm undertones and multicolored micro sparkle. The base color of this gloss is sheer and leaves the lips with a nice tint of color. The shimmer and sparkle was also noticeable once applied. This shade went on smoothly, easily and wasn't overly sticky or tacky, although it is thicker than your standard gloss. Domestic Diva wore well for +4.5 hours. (5/5)
Hot/Cold is a medium-dark red with hints of pink, cooler undertones and a creamy finish. This shade applied smoothly, easily and had excellent, mostly opaque pigmentation. Again, it does have a thicker consistency than your standard gloss but the cream finish was comfortable to wear without being overly tacky. Hot/Cold wore well for +5.5 hours and didn't settle into lip lines at all during that time. (5/5)

Powder Blush $24.50 USD / $29 CAD (0.21 oz.) [LE]
  •  Crisp Whites is described as a pale tangerine with pearls.

  •  Hipness is described as a light peach.
Crisp Whites is a light-medium peach with hints of orange, warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was soft, smooth and blended out evenly on the skin. It had good pigmentation and left a soft satin sheen to the skin. This shade would be best suited for fair to medium skintones since it is a more subtle blush. Crisp Whites wore well for +8 hours and lightly darkened over time. (5/5)
Hipness is a medium-dark pink with hints of coral, warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. The texture was soft, smooth but thin which made it difficult to blend out on the skin evenly at times. Hipness wore well for +8 hours and lightly darkened over time. (4/5)

Highlight Powder $35.50 USD / $41 CAD (0.317 oz.) [LE]
  •  Freshen Up is described as a color wave ranging from coral to neutral.
Freshen Up is made up of a light yellow beige, a light-medium orange peach and a medium-dark coral. The gold frost is an over-spray so it will go away after the first few uses. And when mixed together, Freshen Up takes on a light-medium salmon with hints of orange, warm undertones and a soft satin-like finish. The texture was soft, smooth but ended up looking lightly powdery if too much powder was applied. It blended out nicely and evenly on the skin with good pigmentation—but of course this will depend on how you pick up or mix the three colors. Although it's described as being a highlight powder, on fair to medium skintones it will act as more of a blush. It's definitely an interesting product. Freshen Up wore well for +7.5 hours. (4/5)

Overall, while the collection—like most of MAC's big summer collections—does feature very eye catching packaging, I couldn't help feel the products themselves were lacking in quality, performance and uniqueness. Most colors were very subtle and the shades that stood out were nothing new (ie. reds, pinks) Personally, it ended up being a pretty underwhelming collection being the anticipated big summer release and I can honestly admit my purchase was mostly influenced merely on the packaging.
