MAC released their newest collection The Matte Lip on October 2, 2014 online and October 9, 2014 in-stores. The collection featured 17-pieces, ranging from lipsticks, to lip liners, to blushes.

Vibrant hues like fuchsia Velvet Violet and La Vie En Rouge are a bold contrast to the rich burgundy of Fashion Revival and nude of Styled in Sepia. Go for the cool rouge of Trust in Red or boost it up with new Bespoken For, a dark, creamy plum. Damn Glamorous is described as a bright pink red. [Matte]

Fashion Revival is described as a deep raspberry. [Matte]

Heroine is described as a vibrant violet. [Matte] [Permanent]

Le Vie En Rouge is described as a bright orange coral. [Matte]

Living Legend is described as a deep plum. [Matte]

Nouvelle Vogue is described as a soft blue pink. [Matte]

- Damn Glamorous is a bright, red-pink with warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy but a tad drying when worn for an extended period of time. This shade applied smoothly, evenly, fully opaque and pigmented. It lasted +7 hours before fading and left behind a faint stain. (5/5)

- Fashion Revival is a medium-dark, muted raspberry with cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy, comfortable to wear and was neither drying or hydrating on the lips. This shade applied smoothly, evenly, mostly opaque and lasted +6.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

- Heroine is a bright, magenta purple with cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy and was neither drying or hydrating. It applied mostly opaque, smoothly, evenly and wore well for +5 hours before fading. This shade left behind a vivid, fuchsia stain. (4/5)

- Le Vie En Rouge is a bright, medium coral with warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy and slightly hydrating throughout wear. It applied smoothly, evenly, fully opaque and intensely pigmented. This shade lasted +7 hours before fading and left behind a faint stain. (5/5)

- Living Legend is a darkened, burgundy berry with neutral undertones and satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy but a tad drying when worn for an extended period of time. It applied smoothly, mostly even and pigmented. With most dark shades, it skipped in some places but was opaque for the most part. This shade would benefit best by pairing a lip liner underneath. It lasted +6 hours before fading. (4/5)

- Nouvelle Vogue is a bright, medium pink with cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was lightly creamy but a tad drying when worn for an extended period of time. This shade glided-on very easily, applied smoothly, evenly, opaque and pigmented. It lasted +5 hours before fading. (5/5)

Bespoken For is described as a dark plum cream.
Fashion Boost is described as a bright purple cream.
Trust in Red is described as a bright cool red cream. [Permanent]

The Pro Longwear Lip Pencils perform pretty similar across the board. The finish of these is a flat matte, meaning that they will be drier and cling to lips. The texture is quite stiff and can tug at your lips when applying. While the color payoff is good, it can skip in some areas, grab to imperfections and apply uneven. These lip liners aren't the most flattering to wear alone as they tend look dry on lips and the color flakes off rather than fading gradually throughout wear.

While they aren't the most flattering as a stand alone product, they work wonders paired under a lipstick. The Pro Longwear Lip Pencils ensure that lipsticks will last longer, apply smoother, more even and fully opaque.

- Bespoken For is a darkened burgundy with neutral undertones and a matte finish. This shade applied mostly opaque but the color grabbed in some places and was left looking uneven. (4/5)

- Fashion Boost is a vibrant, medium magenta purple with cool undertones and a matte finish. This shade applied mostly opaque and was only buildable to a degree. Depending on your natural lip pigmentation, the color will vary. (4/5)

- Trust in Red is a medium, muted red with cool undertones and a matte finish. This shade applied mostly opaque and again, was only buildable to a degree. The texture was rather dry and difficult to apply smoothly. (4/5)

Overall, The Matte Lip lipsticks performed great and the shade selection was well-rounded. I really love and appreciate the new matte formula. They are still longer-lasting but aren't as drying and don't cling to lips as much as the retro mattes.
