MAC A Novel Romance Collection

MAC released their newest collection collection A Novel Romance on August 14, 2014 online and August 21, 2014 in-stores. The collection featured lipsticks, lipglasses, blushes, eyeshadow quads, electric cool eyeshadows, fluidline eye pencils and nail lacquers. One of the lipsticks, Yield to Love, in the collection being an online exclusive shade.

Here's what I picked up from the collection...

* Lipstick $16 USD / $19 CAD (0.10 oz.) [LE]

A Novel Romance is described as a light cool dusty pink. [Cremesheen]

Good Kisser is described as a mid-tone fuchsia. [Matte]

Yield to Love is described as a mid-tone rose. [Cremesheen]

- A Novel Romance is a light pink with cool undertones and soft, cream finish. The formula was creamy and lightly fell into the fine lines of my lips. The lipstick applied smoothly, evenly, mostly opaque and lasted +5 hours before further settling into the fine lines of my lips and fading. (4/5)

- Good Kisser is a bright medium, fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. The formula was creamy, opaque, pigmented, smooth and applied evenly. It lasted +6 hours before fading and left behind a stain. (5/5)

- Yield to Love is a medium, rosey pink-plum with cool undertones and a soft, satin finish. The formula was lightly creamy but a tad drying when worn for an extended period of time. The lipstick applied smoothly, mostly even, semi-opaque and lasted +5 hours before showing noticeable wear. (4/5)

* Tinted Lipglass $15 USD / $18 CAD (0.17 oz.) [LE]

Reckless Desire is described as a sheer pearlescent lavender grey.

Talk Sexy is described as a dark purple.

- Reckless Desire is a clear gloss with fine lilac and pink iridescent shimmer. The base color of this gloss is translucent and leaves your lips with a very nice shine. The formula, like all lipglass, was slightly thicker and tackier than an average gloss. The fine shimmer was noticeable and the gloss wore well for +4.5 hours before fading. (5/5)

- Talk Sexy is a deep medium berry with pink and gold shimmer and cool undertones. The base color of this gloss is semi-sheer and while the color does apply a little uneven, it's not noticeable from a regular distance. The formula, like all lipglass, was slightly thicker and tackier than an average gloss. The fine shimmer was noticeable and the gloss wore well for +5 hours before fading. (4/5)

* Blush $22 USD / $26 CAD (0.21 oz.) [LE]

Animal Instincts is described as a shimmering plum. [Frost]

Fun Ending is described as a soft neutral peach. [Satin]

- Animal Instincts is a medium, muted plum with warm undertones and a subtle pink-plum frost finish. The texture was soft, mostly pigmented and light (density wise.) It applied smoothly, evenly and left a soft sheen to the skin. This shade lasted +7 hours before fading. (4/5)

- Fun Ending is a light, peachy pink with warm undertones and a soft, satin finish. The texture was soft, smooth, applied evenly and was blendable. Depending on what you layer this blush over, the pigmentation varies. If you apply this shade over bare skin it's a very subtle, light pink. When paired over a dewy foundation or moisturized skin it becomes a deeper shade. Fun Ending wore well for +7.5 hours before fading. (4/5)

Overall, A Novel Romance is a larger collection and it does introduce brand new products, like the electric cool shadows and fluidline eye pencils into the MAC world. I will admit that I did limit myself with the collection and while I have buyers remorse for some products (Lingering Kiss Lipstick), I'm patting myself on the back for doing it. In a whole, a lot of the shades are easily duped.
